What is Coaching?
Professional Coaching is result and solution orientated and is a support process tailored to individual needs. It helps to optimize human potential and mental health by identifying development needs and promoting them from a value-added, future-oriented perspective.
Typical settings where we like to coach you are:
Business Coaching
Executive Coaching
Coaching young managers
Career Coaching
Coaching in conflicts
Coaching in change processes
Life Coaching
Personal growth
But always remember "No coaching without a contract".
The Coaching Contract
Let's just start at the beginning. Why is a Coaching Contract so important? Because it clarifies what you are looking for!
Why exactly do you need a coach?
What is your objective?
Have you already started coaching with another coach on that topic?
Have you already done things yourself to achieve your goal? If yes, which?
What is important to you in coaching?
What exactly is supposed to happen? What not?
What is your time and budget planning like? Is there a deadline?
Coaching processes are based on different impact factors - aspects that affect whether coaching is successful or not. Additionally, your coach must have specific communication skills, so that the coach can focus on your personal growth, and he can support you in strategic thinking, and reaching your specific goal.
Impact Factors Of Coaching
Impact factors of coaching were described by Prof. Dr. Greif in 2012 and explained what aspects the coach and client have to focus on to be successful. Those impact factors look at the coaching process from an abstract perspective:
Appreciation and emotional support of the client by the coach
Affect activation and affect calibration
Result-oriented problem reflection
Result-oriented self-reflection
Goal clarification
Resource activation - from problem to resource
Implementation support
Regardless of whether you book coaching sessions with us or not, you should always critically evaluate whether the coach can support you in your goal. Unfortunately, there are a large number of non-reputable providers and in this respect.
Coaching is a conscious examination of your problem which helps you to activate your resources to achieve your desired goal. Coaching can help you in taking care of your mental health, your personal development, your career development, developing skills, and optimizing your self-awareness. But coaching is no formal training. It is important for us to set goals for every session and to build up a way that supports you in reaching your goals.
Coaching Sessions
However, it is also difficult to predict an exact duration as change is complex. Ultimately, only you know how quickly you or your business can change. It is often about the following points:
How much time can you currently spend?
Are you supported by your private and professional environment?
Are you one of those people who find it easy to achieve positive change?
What budget have you planned for coaching sessions?
And how complex is your coaching concern?
The duration of the individual coaching sessions can also vary. However, we will adapt to your wishes and preferences and support you in the best possible way.
Coaching sessions should not be less than 1 hour, otherwise, this often leads to feeling very rushed, which can hurt the change experience. In this respect, we request that you always plan at least one hour for a coaching session. However, it is better to plan a time window of one to two hours. This is just helpful to go into all the topics.
Coaching sessions build on each other; that means at the beginning of each session, we briefly reflect on what happened in the last session and how things have been for you since then.
What are your experiences?
Have you already made progress?
What is easy for you?
Where are you struggling?
How and when do these difficulties manifest themselves?
Therefore, sessions at intervals of 7 to 10 days are recommended at the beginning of the coaching. This ensures that the changes made can be questioned and we can see if you are on the right track. As time progresses, the interval can then be increased, e.g. on monthly appointments. On average, you can expect to need around 8 to 12 hours of coaching. Individually, this can of course always vary upwards or downwards. The entire time frame of the cooperation usually varies between a few weeks and a few months. Normally it doesn't last longer than half a year.
What Is The Role Of The Coach?
The Coach
creates an empathic & positive atmosphere.
reduces your fears through good contracting (roles, contexts, do's and don'ts) and building up a resourceful relationship.
supports you through different methodologies, which will help you in achieving your goals.
perceives emotions, reflects them to you, and gives you resonance. This will help you to get a higher self-awareness and a deeper understanding of your personality.
structures the coaching process. This means the coach focuses on the goal and uses different tools to support you in achieving your goals.
works continuously on the relationship and observes the whole process from different perspectives.
What Is The Procedure Of Coaching Sessions?
An example of a procedure for a coaching session without specific tools or models:
Orientation
What is the need?
What is the target focus?
Formulate your goals "SMART - specific, measurable, attractive, realistic, timely"
Work
Developing solutions for problems & goals
Activation of resources
Impact factors according to Greif (e.g. respect, trust, empathy & authenticity)
Systemic view - all building blocks of the system - persons and the system itself
Identifying approaches for improvement
Evaluation
Reflection
Focus - was the goal reached? Why not? Did the goal change?
Client conditions - focus on client, design, and architecture
Coaching design - holistic design based on the assignment
Coaching architecture - integration of work context, integration of environment, if necessary linking with team development
Live Or Distance Coaching?
Coaching can be conducted both in personal on-site appointments and digitally. Digital appointments have the advantage that they are practical and travel times are eliminated. However, one disadvantage is always that the atmosphere of live coaching usually cannot be transferred to digital coaching.
Personal on-site appointments help to incorporate real-world environmental factors and are very helpful and important, especially at the beginning of coaching sessions, to work holistically on your topics and objectives. But they have the disadvantage that they are more expensive due to the travel times.
If possible, we always recommend a mixture of both variants. In the beginning, it makes sense to start with live coaching. A personal meeting helps both the coachee and the coach because when we get to know each other in person, we can simply fall back on more channels of perception. In the further course of the coaching, however, it makes a lot of sense to use digital coaching, as it is easier to integrate into the day in terms of time planning and the time required.
Of course, this is just a suggestion.
If only personal or only digital coaching sessions are important to you, this can be implemented without any problems.
Different Variations Of Coaching
Business Coaching
Business Coaching focuses on entrepreneurs and business owners and deals with all topics that can arise in everyday work and in which you need support from a coach. These can be
topics that affect you personally in your current role,
topics that affect your team or your employees,
topics of reflecting or improving your vision, goal, or strategic direction,
topics of identifying and implementing successful business growth opportunities.
Successful business coaching needs to be aware of the mix of strategic management and operational management supplemented by the perception of the current situation of the company. You can't focus on just one aspect. Otherwise, you will miss your goal.
Strategic Perspective - Vision & Goals - What should be achieved?
Operational Perspective - What are we doing to change? What should be coached?
Tactical Perspective - Overview - Is change happening? How can we measure that? What must be our next steps due to the analysis?
Executive Coaching
Executive Coaching focuses on the top leaders and business growth. Typical situations for executive coaching can be
How to manage your company?
How to manage a department or a team in the best way?
Generate new ideas and perspectives or use critical external thinking to discuss solutions
Leading at a distance (field service or home office solutions)
Self-organization (compatibility of leadership and operational work)
Strengthening leadership and decision-making skills
Feedback from a professional sparring partner
Business growth & Personal growth
Persuasive speeches and public speaking
Self-image and external image
Leadership Coaching
Leadership Coaching focuses on all aspects of leadership like
Leadership and leadership style,
Resolve interpersonal conflicts among team members,
Agile thinking - growth mindset vs fixed mindset
Developing positive habits
Leadership can be very different in different companies. For example, if a company uses the Managerial Grid of Blake & Mouton, you could have five different types of leadership in an organization. And if we take a look at Mintzberg's managerial roles, leaders have to act in 10 different roles:
1. Figurehead
2. Leader
3. Liaison
4. Monitor
5. Disseminator
6. Spokesperson
7. Entrepreneur
8. Disturbance Handler
9. Resource Allocator
10. Negotiator
